As my car was experiencing these symptoms, I decided to clean out the EGR valve and inlet manifold to try and restore the engines performance. The photo sequence that follows shows the work involved on a 2004 Ford Mondeo 130 TDCi ‘Euro4’, though I am sure other models will be similar.
Hi, I have a 2009 Ford Focus 1.8 TDCI with 38,000 miles covered. 3,000 miles ago, at motorway speed of 70mph and having covered 60 miles, a misfire started. It became worse and the Engine Malfunction light came on. The car would only now tick over and not respond to the accelerator. Switch off and on again and the car drove reasonably ok again
Gonna get a large ball bearing and wedge it in pipe and then stuff loads of gungum exhaust sealent in and around it.Seeing as the gasses will have been cooled down a tad by going through the cooler I think it should be o.k.(hopefully)Or I could just bite the bullet and take of the fuel filter and pipes to get at the egr bolts and fit blanking plate and then try to bleed fuel filter.or I Mondeo mk 3 - EGR Valve blanked - problems since - 3uga. NOx usualy forms at high temperatures and high presures. Geting exhaust gases into the intake means less oxigen in the combustion chamber and lower combustion temperatures, reducing the formatin of NOx. NOx forms at such high temperatures that is bad for engine.
Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI - Blanking EGR valve and fault codes - Tom Erik That is not completly true on this engine, the EGR is one of the main reasons the oil on these engines fill with carbon, it known to clog up the pickup in the engine and causing catastrophic failure at low mileage cause of oil pressure loss, and the oil pipe going to the turbo
